With over 30 years experience and training in psychotherapy, I have incorporated valuable insights and a number of approaches and tools into my practice of psychotherapy. I completed a 6-year graduate degree with a full research thesis in Clinical Psychology in Germany, evaluated as equivalent to a Master’s Degree by the University of Toronto. After moving to Canada I continued my training with a two year internship in psychotherapy and pursued many further training opportunities and internships in various approaches to psychotherapy.
I have presented numerous workshops and conducted groups on stress management, body image and disordered eating, healthy relationships and conflict resolution. I am trained in family mediation and marriage and family therapy. I participated in a major research project on relational therapy and have co-authored a peer reviewed article on that research.
As an immigrant I am sensitive to issues facing all newcomers to Canada. I speak fluent German as well as English and a little French. I have worked in non-profit agencies, running women’s groups and providing supervision to the front-line staff in a women’s shelter. I have served on the Board of the Ontario Association of Interval and Transition Houses, advocating for services for abused women and their children. I have also been a long-standing member of the Ontario Association of Counsellors, Consultants, Psychometrists and Psychotherapists (OACCPP). Since 1998 I work full-time as a psychotherapist in a major Toronto hospital, continuing my private practice on a part-time basis.
I hold a status appointment with the University of Toronto, Department of Psychiatry, for supervision in marriage and couples therapy.
